Hope Is A Blossom Of Glass

Wesley heard this joke in a pub once:

If you took all the nerves from a man and laid them end to end--that man would die.

Now he knows this isn't true. He is a wire, resonating. A thin line of love.

"Love can be a terrible thing."

He believes this. Love encompasses beauty and terror. Love is a bottle of milk on the stove.

If he could choose anything, it would be this place. To watch a man, his son in his arms.

Hope is a blossom of glass, unfurling in his chest--erupting in a thousand shards of laughter.

::blinks at your icon:: What? Oh.

Thank you. The Wes of AtS 3 just broke my heart. All those hard choices.

This is really nice. I especially like the contrast of the abstract and the concrete in Love encompasses beauty and terror. Love is a bottle of milk on the stove.

Thank you! Originally there was more to that section. I like the discipline of drabbling. It forces me to pick what's really essential over what only seems so.

Oh my. That is just... Guh. Beautfiul and heartbreaking. Poor Wesley. Poor Angel. Poor Connor. They could have made such a happy family...

Yes, it broke my heart just watching the tragedy of AtS 3 unfold. ::sniffs::

LOL! Are you trying to be punny?

Thank you! The hope image is the first one that came to me, and I worked up from there.

Very nice. I especially love what you do with the metaphor in the last line.

Thank you! The metaphor seemed appropriate for Wes's pain.

BEAUTIFUL I didn't mean to have the caps lock on but it's worth shouting over anyway. Nice job.

Thank you, Leni! Watching Wes try so hard to do what was best did make me cry. This scene in "Loyalty" broke my heart.

[info]viciouswishes rec'ed this and I'm idly surfing LJ here at 5am waiting for sleep and watching anime on the Cartoon Network.

This is gorgeous. I have been thinking lately that I'm not interested in drabbles. I'm all, "what can they DO for me?" But this has changed my mind. It's *doing* it for me. It's moving and lovely.

Wow, thank you! I seem to remember a Lost fic of yours. That was a drabble series, yes? My memory has been wonky lately.

I miss drabbling. *sigh* But I'm happy to hear from you! Yay!

Oh thank you. Out of all the drabbles that I've written, this is one of my favorites. I don't self-pimp much but when I do, it's this one.

God, that just--just--hurts. A lot. The rhythm is perfect, and I'll never forget:

Love is a bottle of milk on the stove.

That just--that's some good stuff right there.

*loves on you*

*lots*

Wow. Thanks for coming by and reading this! That scene from "Loyalty" where Wes and Angel are discussing love and Wes is so close to cracking with the decision he's about to make, and the whole while Angel is heating up a bottle for Connor? Kills me *so* dead. I cannot get through that scene without crying.
